Automation Expectation

I turn away from the urinal
but it does not flush.

I hold out my hands for soap, water, towels,
but nothing happens.

What is this strange, archaic place
where I must touch things
in order to receive them?

  1. That's funny and kind of pathetic at the same time. If you ever walk into a door expecting it to open then you're really done for! That last stanza is potentially really deep. "..I must touch things in order to receive them." Isn't that true of our spiritual lives too? We have to do something in order to grow, it just doesn't happen by walking up to an automated god expecting something to come and satisfy our hearts. On that note, I'm glad that God is personal and wants us to "touch Him in order to receive Him". Way cool! Was your poem meant to be so deep? I like it a lot.
